Culture & Language Preservation

Culture & Language Preservation

The soul of a people lies in their language, traditions, and stories. At the Mhiship Community and Cultural Development Association (MCCDA), we recognize that cultural identity is not just heritage—it is power. It is the foundation upon which we build resilience, unity, and pride.

Our Culture & Language Preservation program is a heartfelt response to the growing loss of indigenous knowledge among the younger generation. It is our way of passing the torch—ensuring that the wisdom of our elders, the rhythms of our language, and the beauty of our customs are not forgotten but revived, celebrated, and carried forward.

📜 Recording Oral Histories

With urgency and reverence, we are documenting the oral histories of our elders—capturing stories of origin, migration, proverbs, songs, and life lessons. These are being archived in both audio and written formats, creating a cultural treasury for future generations.

“When an elder dies, a library burns. We are saving these libraries—one voice, one story at a time.”

🗣️ Language Classes for Youth

To safeguard the Mhiship language, we organize language immersion classes and weekend workshops for children and young adults. Through storytelling, songs, games, and interactive sessions, young people are learning to speak, read, and write in the language of their forebears—restoring connection and pride.

🎨 Traditional Crafts Workshops

We host regular workshops on indigenous crafts such as weaving, pottery, bead-making, and woodcarving. Led by skilled local artisans, these sessions not only preserve traditional skills but also create avenues for creative expression and economic opportunity.
