Development Challenges & Goals

As a small ethnic group, the Mhiship face development gaps. Most communities lack paved roads, consistent electricity, and access to modern healthcare. Educational attainment is low due to few local schools and language barriers. Economically, subsistence farming dominates, so the community seeks agricultural training and market access. Key goals for local leaders include: improving schools and literacy programs; building clinics or drilling wells; creating youth skills centers; and preserving language/culture. For example, MCCDA’s recent achievements include completing and roofing the Mhiship Community Hall in Chip (a landmark for cultural gatherings).

Youth and student associations (e.g. the National Association of Mhiship Students and Mhiship Youth Movement) actively campaign to improve education and empower young people. In sum, community plans focus on “education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and infrastructure development” to uplift the Mhiship people (mirroring known Plateau diaspora priorities).
