Plateau State Association- United Kingdom (PSA-UK) have called on Plateau State and the Nigerian government to do more than mere rhetorics to bring an end to the rising insecurities, banditry and terrorism destroying innocent lives and property of citizens in the country.
In a Press Statement Signed by PSA-UK Publicity Secretary, Sendi Zachariah and made available to Mhiship Digital News, stated that PSA-UK are worried about the incessant killings of human lives, abductions and displacement of farmers and villagers in their ancestral homes, insisting that the military and the government in power should do more.
While highlighting the most recent security challenges bedeviling Plateau State and Nigeria, the Association decried recent events deepening National anxiety like the killing of a senior military officer and other Nigerian soldiers by insurgent fighters, the abduction of school girls in Kebbi, attack on worshippers in Kwara State, displacement of farmers and villagers from their communities among other forms of banditry and acts of Terrorism.
The Statement further added that the Nigerian government and security agencies must show commitment and sincerity to win the war especially by going after groups that have severally claimed responsibility for some of the attacks and if possible, the Nigerian government should seek for international support to confront the violent non-state actors instead of sticking to ‘pride in the face of National Crises’.
Also, PSA-UK expressed their solidarity with victims and displaced Nigerians living in Internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) and urged Plateau State and Nigerian citizens to demand for accountability from it’s leaders in the face of rising Insecurity.
The statement finally called on the Federal government to urgently dismantle armed groups, rescue abducted citizens and restore public trust, calling on the Plateau State government to strengthen local intelligence, early-warning systems and community-based security frameworks to help curb the insecurity.
