MHISHIP LAND OF MY PRIDE
By Daniel Yepshik,
Lecturer in the Department of English, College of Arts, Science and Technology, ( CAST) Kurgwi.
O Mhiship land, where my heart belongs,
Where every hill echoes ancestral songs.
Bathed in the gold of the rising sun,
Your beauty glows when day is begun.
Your valleys deep and mountains high,
Stretch boldly beneath the open sky.
Palm trees sway in graceful dance,
A sight that puts the soul in trance.
Sweet is your gift, O land divine,
The sparkling stream of rich palmwine.
Drawn fresh from trunks that nature bless,
A symbol of joy and happiness.
The calabash flows from hand to hand,
In peace and love across the land.
A toast is raised to kin and guest,
For Mhiship’s heart beats in the chest.
Your sons are strong, your daughters fair,
Your fields are green with loving care.
With every step upon your soil,
We honour ancestors and their toil.
O Mhiship, cradle of truth and grace,
You wear your culture like fine lace.
No other place, no land so wide,
Can match you — Mhiship, my pride.
I’ll sing of you through storm and tide,
And walk with honour by your side.
Forever yours, with arms open wide —
Mhiship land, my joy, my pride.
