
Pankshin LGA Chairman Presents 2026 Budget to Legislative Arm

The Executive Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council, Hon. Felix Amos Gonung has presented the 2026 fiscal budget titled: “Budget of Consolidation and Development” to the council’s legislature.
In his address to the Councillors, Hon. Gonung presented a total budget of ₦9,743,252,785.27, for the 2026 fiscal year.
The Chairman explained that the sum of (#5,535,469,441.22) representing 56 % of the budget was for recurrent cost while the total sum of (₦4,207,783,344.05) representing 44% of the budget was for capital projects.
According to the council Chairman, the 2026 budget of Consolidation and Development marked a deliberate shift toward greater investment in infrastructure such as roads, schools, and clinics.
According to our corespondent, the budget prioritized six key sectors: Education, to improve school facilities and training; Healthcare, to expand clinics and lower medicine costs; Agriculture, to boost farmer support and food security; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), to ensure clean water and proper sanitation; Human‑capital development, focusing on youth and women’s skills training; and Infrastructure, aimed at enhancing roads, markets, and electricity to stimulate trade.
Hon. Gonung further noted the past challenges his administration faced, which he highlighted included irregular funding and rising costs hence, pledged transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance in implementing the 2026 budget when passed into law.
He thanked the legislative council for its oversight functions and support and called on residents of the Local Government Area to cooperate with his administration to ensure the successful implementation of the budget, as it awaits legislative approval.
